Last Saturday, the 24th of January 2015, I went to San Fernando, Pampanga for a pacing duty at the 5th 160kms Bataan Death March Ultramarathon. I was privileged to join the 1st and the 2nd edition, but after it, I stayed as a pacer and crew since the 3rd.
As a backgrounder, browse thru:
1st Edition. Finished in 34 hours 5 minutes 54 seconds.
2nd Edition, Finished 29 hours 31 minutes and 22 seconds.
3rd Edition, Crew and Pacer to CJ Paran who finished fast at 14th Overall, with a time of 27 hours 1 minute 28 seconds.
4th Edition, Pacer to Daphne Codilla, who finished 4th Overall and the Female Champion, with a time of 24 hours 16 minutes 44 seconds.
5th Edition, Pacer to Thea Sangrador, who finished in 29 hours 51 minutes 14 seconds.
Again, for lack of any available picture at the Finish Line, here’s Thea when we reconned the route to Finish Line. Will update pictures soon.
This race is not easy. It’s also not impossible. It’s been done by many. And many failed too in conquering it. One needs a good crew and a good pacer and a good training plan coupled with a good race strategy over a good weather – to beat this one.
I have trained a lot of ultrarunners for this. I have trained for this event too. It’s really taxing.
Anyways, I am so looking forward to running this event again – given a sponsor! 🙂 It’s quite expensive for me. The fee, the logistics, and the training.
God will provide.
