Race Report: Gatorade Run 11/22

It was a festive Sunday morning. Walking to the race venue, I chanced upon the gunstart of the 22-km runners.

12240051_10153190175686806_2110894004729869782_n

While walking and sipping my hot coffee to the starting line, I noticed how lively the road was when decorated.

12239510_10153190175546806_7650505700657711950_n

I then started looking for the Media Tent where I will be getting the race kit. I am running for takbo.ph as a media blogger. It didnt even take long for me to get the race kit. I was simply asked to sign. ๐Ÿ˜‰

12241205_10153190175961806_7908819619698500428_n

I strolled around the race venue before proceeding then to the warm-up area. Yes, there is such a thing now. Lots of runners walking, jogging, running to warm up. Others are doing their stretchings.

12239632_10153190176416806_1828246504044195410_n

12241495_10153190176096806_7018415362843600857_n

This event is well-attended. I thought so.

There was this less-than 3-minute of warm-up by Fitness First before the actual count-down. 11217812_10153190176836806_4629107977304243638_n

It can’t be helped. Gatorade has always been where running is. Road or Trail, Solo Run or Race, and just about at every running event – event charity runs.

Top that with the nice singlet. Orange, yet cool to the eyes.

Off we go now over a loud-banging cheer. We walked. Yes, with a crowd this big, we have no choice but to walk. It was about 2 minutes before I started to jog. I wanted to run but it’s a drag start. Im a bit tired and sleepy but an 11-K run is manageable.

12294648_10153190176651806_5348011677386417847_n.jpg

Surprisingly, I stopped to drink and walk at the very first Km. hahahaha. There goes my target finish time of at least 70 minutes or 1:10:00. I pushed a little but I gave in to just maintaining my jog rather than push it hard early. Right past 4th Km, I stopped and walked to drink again. Now I am thinking here. I need to push…and failed! Very funny! The more I wanted to speed up, the slower I go. Knowing me, I just wont give up. I kept pushing a little. Little by little until I have a decent 5-K time split. By the time I reached the 8th Km, I am already jogging fast. I loved the feeling and held-on to it until another unexpected thing happened. Right near the 9th Km marker, left foot cramp and side stitch is killing me. The pain was manageable but I wanted to just walk at this point. I intended to run fast at the last 2 kms – so I pushed. I started looking around and see familiar faces I was with at the starting line. I guess i’d push myself to beating them to the finish. It worked! It always worked for me. I managed to run my fastest pace in this last kilometer to the finish.

Thanks to Jinoe and Que for trusting a bib to me for this event. It’s an honor to run for takbo.ph

I may not have ran as fast as I wanted but I still finished close to target.

Kudos to the race organizers:

  • Perfectly measured route
  • Overflowing Gatorade and Water
  • Well-marshalled event
  • Smooth flow of race in the intersections
  • Special shout-out to the cheerers near the last 400 meters
  • Very nice finisher’s shirt

Looking forward now to the next Gatorade Run at a longer distance. Looking forward too for events of such high caliber. ๐Ÿ™‚

Gatorade Run 11/22

One of the coolest titled race I’ve ever known. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s on November 22, 2015 @ Seaside Blvd, MOA (mall of asia) and the distances are 11 and 22 kilometers only. Guess what? I opted for the 11K – for the fast fun of it!

Somehow, after my last race in a long time, this race is one I look forward to. Simply because I am running for Takbo.ph ๐Ÿ™‚

Race report to follow.

CAFE Arquiza

Yes, I’m referring to La Corona Hotel’s Cafe Arquiza.

Since my visit last October, a series of visits follow. ( a span of no more than a month)

๐Ÿ™‚

  • with Nina, Abby, Chris and Kendra
  • with Cyril Justin
  • with Czarina Joy and Cyril Justin (the day after this day)

There’s something to that place that is worth coming back for – – – – – – – –ย  GOOD SERVICE!

๐Ÿ™‚

They serve with a smile.

They serve promptly with a smile.

They greet clients with a smile.

This is already on top of the nice food. The menu is not as variant as the luxurious one, but for P 300.00, this is already a bargain!

APEC WORK-WEEK 2015

It’s APEC week and we have work.

Thank God for all the benefits of this event.

However, some people can’t understand the side effects.

Metro Manila closed a lot of roads where the APEC leaders are. Yes, for security reason. But also, the domino effect of a heavy traffic someplace else, especially in the south is worth considering. The Caviteรฑos suffered a lot.

Well, a lot of people suffered. But the people living in the direction of Cavite got hit so bad.

I am luckily situated in the heart of the City of Manila. Workplace is Walking, Biking, Running Distance only.

so easy to run to work!
so easy to run to work!
COULD have been this hard if I was a marathon distance away. :)

I could have just wandered shirt-less in the mountains…:)

But it’s a work-week for me. I have to report to work. I must. No choice. Not that I don’t want too – but this is something I am really supposed to be doing while the rest of the majority is enjoying the holidays. We work. We serve.

How can you report to work when the traffic is at a stand-still and you can’t get a ride?

How will you even go home even when you are able to go to work?

Would you choose to walk?

Regardless of the distance?

I noticed that the police concentration and vehicle traffic is where the APEC leaders are. However, other areas require attention too.

Manila’s Baywalk has never been this clean.

Manila’s Baywalk has never been out of peddlers – until now.

Manila’s Baywalk has never been out of runners in the afternoon – until now.

๐Ÿ™‚

I dont know.

Let’s just pray for the good benefit to come after the event.

Let’s just pray that the SMALL and MEdium Enterprises will benefit too.

Let’s just pray that the big and prosperous nations will share their technologies with us.

Let God reign, for He is King.
