That You May Be Saved

Yes. That’s exactly the purpose of this writing. This blog is now being used to communicate to you something, or anything, to help you decide to repent – that you may be saved.

We may not be aware of our situation. Let the Word of God show us.

We need to take action to have the grace of God flow to us. The Word of God will confirm this.

So what is our situation?

Sad but true. Terrible but true. We all. Everybody. Not a single person on earth. And since this is the case, the Lord turned His face away from us. And He would not listen to our call, our prayers…

  • Psalm 34:15 – 16 New Living Translation
The eyes of the LORD watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help.
But the LORD turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth.

Ever heard of someone? Whose memory was erased here on earth?

  • Isaiah 1:15 New Living Translation
When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look. Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims.
  • Isaiah 59:1-2 New Living Translation
Listen! The LORD’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call. It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.
  • John 9:31 New Living Translation
We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will.
  • 1 Peter 3:12 New Living Translation
The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.”

…But when we take a particular action, we are restored back to His loving mercy!

  1. Repent. This means changing the direction of your life. From sinner who turns away from doing a sin to following God – obeying His commands.
  2. Do His will. (I’m stating only what’s written. We all know that individually, God has a sovereign will – a purpose for our lives. e.i, Paul is an Apostle of Jesus Christ by God’s will.)
    1. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 New Living Translation
God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin.
    2. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 New Living Translation
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
  3. Worship Him.
    1. Romans 12:1 New Living Translation
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice–the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
    2. Psalm 50:23 New Living Translation
But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.”
  4. Do what is Right and Stop doing Evil.
    1. 1 John 3:7 New Living Translation
Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.
    2. Psalm 37:28 New Living Translation
For the LORD loves justice, and he will never abandon the godly. He will keep them safe forever, but the children of the wicked will die.
    3. 1  Corinthians 6:9 New Living Translation
Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people–none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.
    4. Ephesians 5:5 New Living Translation
You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
    5. Colossians 3:5 New Living Translation
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
  5. Believe in Jesus.
    1. John 20:31 New Living Translation
But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.
    2. John 1:12 New Living Translation
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
    3. John 3:36 New Living Translation
And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”
    4. Mark 16:16 New Living Translation
Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.
    5. Acts 16:31 New Living Translation
They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”
    6. Romans 10:9 New Living Translation
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
    7. Galatians 3:26 New Living Translation
For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
    8. 1 John 5:11 New Living Translation
And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
  6.  Live for Christ. Do everything listed from #1 above down to this number.

The Golden Rule

golden-rule-title

We all know the golden rule. But not everybody is aware that it is written in the Bible. The Lord Jesus said it himself:

Matthew 7:12 New Living Translation
“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

What more can we say if these words are still not clear to many? What better word would it take for the message to get through our hearts and mind?

Let us first connect the verse above to the verses below:

  • Matthew 22:35 –  New Living Translation
One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
  • Galatians 5:14 New Living Translation
For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
  • Romans 13:10 New Living Translation
Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.

And, for better understanding I’d include here the portion of 1 John 4 about Loving One Another. I will not add anything nor remove anything. These are words from the witness himself – the Apostle John. 1 John 4:7-20 New Living Translation

Loving One Another

7Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.

8But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

9God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.

10This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

11Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.

12No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

13And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us.

14Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

15All who confess that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God.

16We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

17And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.

18Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

19We love each other because he loved us first.

20If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?

21And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their Christian brothers and sisters.

It may be a lengthy one but it’s very “meaty”. Its full of reason and command. Of all the virtues, put love – as mentioned in Colossians 3:14 NIV. For love binds them all in unity.

Now let us love one another. For this is one of the greatest commandment.

ps121-3-4

He is a 24/7 God – high up in heaven but is watching all of us. Our loving Father watches over us. The entire Psalm 121 New Living Translation is as follows:

1I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there?

2My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!

3He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.

4Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.

24/7 LOVING GOD

Psalm 121:3-4 tells us that our God never slumbers nor sleeps.

5The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.

6The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.

7The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.

8The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

Such great assurance for all of us. For what reason would He not let us stumble, would He keep watch on us without sleeping, would He keep us from harm? It is all out of LOVE FOR US!

Indeed, God is our helper. He knows our many weaknesses, our frailties, our shortcomings and lack of better understanding. He made the heavens and the earth. Who can else can do such thing other than the Almighty? Psalm 124:8 says that ‘Our help is from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.’ He is indeed all-powerful. Nothing is too hard for Him. Nothing, even, is impossible to Him.

  • Psalm 16:8 New Living Translation
I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.

The Lord himself watches over us. We’re not supposed to be shaken, nor stirred, nor troubled, nor be fearful. He is our protector. Who can stand against an all-powerful God? He would not even allow the sun to harm us with its rays! Such love! He wouldn’t let anything harm us and He is watching our coming and going. Wow. What more can you ask for? Isn’t this so much love? As if it wasn’t enough. He sent His own Son to save us from death – Sin. Hence, the world famous verse John 3:16. Not just to save us from sure death but moreso to give us Eternal Life thru His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

How great is our God! How awesome is our Father! For His great love He himself walked the earth thru our Lord Jesus. He is full of compassion and mercy that He heals the sick, drive-out demons, feed the hungry and save all who believe! He even performed countless miracles! All for love of us. All out of love for us.

We can’t help but give thanks to Him then. He deserves all honor, and praise and worship!

  • Psalm 50:23 New Living Translation
But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.”
  • Jonah 2:9 New Living Translation
But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the LORD alone.”
  • Psalm 95:2 New Living Translation
Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him.

Rooted in His word, we should be doing what we ought to do – thank Him for His mighty works! Follow His requirements, for salvation is from God alone and no one else.

  • Psalm 68:20 English Standard Version
Our God is a God of salvation, and to GOD, the Lord, belong deliverances from death.

We should all turn to God. Not turn away. He loves us so that He is willing to forgive us of our many sins if we repent. Ask and pray to God in the name of our Lord Jesus! He awaits. He patiently waits for us. He already have revealed his instructions thru his Prophets.

  • Micah 6:8 New Living Translation
No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
  • Proverbs 21:3 New Living Translation
The LORD is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices.
  • 1 Samuel 15:22-23 New Living Translation (Prophet Samuel denouncing King Saul)       But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.”
  • Isaiah 1:15 – (On Meaningless Offerings) New Living Translation
When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look. Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims. Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.
  • Hosea 6:6 New Living Translation
I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.
  • Matthew 9:13 New Living Translation
Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.
  • Luke 5:32 New Living Translation
I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”

mercy-not-sacrifice

It is up now to us to act. To do what we ought to do. To do what is right for us – to be saved! The olden times’ requirement has not changed. Even after the Lord ascended to heaven, nothing in this requirements has changed. They are even His command:

  • John 13:34 New Living Translation
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.
  • John 15:17 New Living Translation
This is my command: Love each other.
  • Romans 13:8-10 New Living Translation
Owe nothing to anyone–except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law. For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These–and other such commandments–are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.

Act now. Decide to turn away from the wrong things you do. Turn to God! Renew your heart and mind. Choose life. Choose to love! Repent of your sins! Make the Lord the ruler of your life!

Living in Christ Jesus our Lord

Written 11/25/2016 by Mar Marilag

Romans 10:9 New Living Translation
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Indeed. We all confess and even shout that Jesus is Lord of our lives. We claim, as Christians, His victory over death, and the prize of salvation. However, we do not stop there. We live our lives for Him since He lives in us. Some may simply ask how?

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans 8:5 – 14 New Living Translation

Life in the Spirit

5Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.

  • Galatians 5:17 New Living Translation
The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
  • Galatians 5:19 -21 New Living Translation
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
  • Galatians 5:22-23 New Living Translation
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
  • Philippians 3:18 – 19 New Living Translation
For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ. They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth.

6So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

  • Galatians 6:8 New Living Translation
Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.
  • Romans 6:23 New Living Translation
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

7For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.

romans-8-7

  • James 4:4 New Living Translation
You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

8That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.

  • Romans 1:21 New Living Translation
Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.
  • Ephesians 4:18 New Living Translation
Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him

9But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)

  • 1 Corinthians 3:16 New Living Translation
Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?
  • 1 Corinthians 6:17 New Living Translation
But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 New Living Translation
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
  • 2 Corinthians 6:16 New Living Translation
And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

10And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.

  • Galatians 2:20 New Living Translation
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

11The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

tumblr_o3vbrrgyk51tjj2sjo1_1280

  • John 5:21 New Living Translation
For just as the Father gives life to those he raises from the dead, so the Son gives life to anyone he wants.
  • John 6:63 New Living Translation
“The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.”

12Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.

  • Romans 6:14 New Living Translation
Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

13For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.

  • Colossians 3:5 New Living Translation
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
  • Ephesians 5:3 New Living Translation
Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.

14For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

romans-8-14

  • Galatians 3:26 New Living Translation
For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
  • John 1:12 New Living Translation
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
  • 1 John 3:1 New Living Translation
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.
  • Romans 8:16 New Living Translation
For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.

What else then can we do other than be what we are?

If we are children of God, then we should be like children of God!

If we are Christians, then we should be Christ-like – a living proof of the works of Jesus!

If we are saved, then we should be living as saved – and not as someone who needs to be saved!

If we are servants of God, then we should be serving like His servants!

Decide now! Today! This moment! Decide what you want to be. God’s child or God’s enemy? Saved or Condemned? Servant to and for Christ or Servant to no one?

Our God, our Father

Being a Christian means living our life in Christ. It is all about Hearing the good news, Believing in Christ, Receiving Him as our Lord, and Saviour, Repenting of our sins, Confessing, and Being Baptized. But how can anyone know of the good news if no one is proclaiming? How can anyone receive someone they cannot believe? What will they repent of when they have no idea that they even have committed a sin? Before the Son, the Father. But they are one and they have always been together since the beginning. Jesus, the Son of the living God is the personification of God himself. Let us explore the wondrous things about our God.

God is OUR CREATOR, our great and powerful God!

before-the-mountains-were-brought

He is the source of all wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Who can reason with Him?

  • ISAIAH 40:28 New Living Translation Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
  • PSALM 89:11 New Living Translation The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; everything in the world is yours–you created it all.
  • ISAIAH 40:26 New Living Translation Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.

God is OUR SAVIOUR, our refuge and protector

  • PSALM 50:15 New Living Translation Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”

We call to God by way of prayer, or praise! We talk to Him by asking questions or telling Him about anything in our heart or mind or feelings. We are assured to be heard IF we ask forgiveness.

JAMES 5:13 New Living Translation
Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.

God, THE LORD, OUR GOD, is one with whom nothing is impossible!

One of the greatest assurance for mankind. Regardless of race or color, if you believe in God – we know that he is able to do ANYTHING. What can you ask for that He cannot give? Well, if you ask with wrong motive…

luke-1-37

Let us not commit the mistake of limiting God. He himself has no limit. Let us just allow Him to do what He will for us according to our faith in Him – mindful of our requests or prayers or petitions.

  • JEREMIAH 32:27 New Living Translation “I am the LORD, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?
  • GENESIS 18:14 New Living Translation Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”
  • LUKE 1:37 New Living Translation For nothing is impossible with God.”
  • MATTHEW 19:26 New Living Translation Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”

And this is just a glimpse of who our living God is. He is more. More to know of, and a lot more to experience. He is a loving God who cares for us. Just look to Jesus and see!

Trust in God

We all have issues. Everybody faces different kinds of problems. Varied trials tests even the toughest. We are on equal footing when it comes to this. The big difference lies on who we put our trust to when trials come, and when we are faced with a very big problem.

Psalm 62:8 International Standard Version
People, in every situation put your trust in God; pour out your heart before him; for God is a refuge for us.

God is a refuge for us. A refuge is something that provides shelter. A protected place. No need to explain further since we already understood this.  No matter what we believe, God is the same. No matter our situation, He is our refuge. But God is more than just a refuge.

psalm62_7-8

The following Psalms are great references for the many things God is. And this is just but a few. The Book of Psalm has 150 Chapters.

Psalm 27:1 International Standard Version
The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom will I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom will I be afraid?

Psalm 28:7-8 International Standard Version

Psalm 46:1 International Standard Version
God is our refuge and strength, a great help in times of distress.

Psalm 59:16-17 International Standard Version
But I will sing of your power and in the morning I will shout for joy about your gracious love. For you have been a fortress for me; and a refuge when I am distressed.
My Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, God of Gracious Love, are my fortress.

psalm9114

Listing down for clarity:

  1. God is our refuge.
  2. God is our strength. He gives strength and He is the source of our strength
  3. God is our shield.
  4. God is a great help in times of distress.
  5. God is our fortress. A fortress is not susceptible to influence or disturbance.
  6. God is light. Light is an understanding of a mystery. Freedom from confusion!
  7. God is our defense.
  8. God is our deliverance or salvation.
  9. God is our glory or honor.
  10. God is our mighty rock or protector.
  11. God of Gracious Love is full of mercy and compassion.

It’s important to read the entire chapter of a Psalm to see through the whole idea. There are certain requirement of action written to be able to gain the benefits of some truths. (As in Psalm 91)

  • Focus our love on God
  • Know His name

Psalm 50:14-15 International Standard Version
Offer to God a thanksgiving praise; pay your vows to the Most High.
Call on me in the day of distress; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me.

Psalm 50:23 International Standard Version
Whoever offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me, and I will reveal the salvation of God to whomever continues in my way.

“This is what the LORD says who made the earth, the LORD who formed it in order to establish it—whose name is the LORD— Call to me and I’ll answer you, and will tell you about great and hidden things that you don’t know.”

However, while our loving God is full of mercy and compassion and love for us:

Isaiah 59:2 International Standard Version
Instead, your iniquities have been barriers between you and your God, and your sins have concealed his face from you so that he won’t listen.
New Living Translation

It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.

Re Sin, Trespasses, Transgressions and Iniquities – What’s the difference? (sourced here)

Sin means “to miss the mark.” It can refer to doing something against God or against a person (Exodus 10:16), doing the opposite of what is right (Galatians 5:17), doing something that will have negative results (Proverbs 24:33–34), and failing to do something you know is right (James 4:17). In the Old Testament, God even instituted sacrifices for unintentional sins (Numbers 15:27). Sin is the general term for anything that “falls short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

The sin nature leads to trespassing. A trespasser is someone who crosses a line or climbs a fence that he should not cross or climb. A trespass may be intentional or unintentional. Trespass can also mean “to fall away after being close beside.” Peter trespassed when he denied Jesus (Luke 22:34, 56–62). We all “cross the line” in thought, word, or attitude many times a day and should be quick to forgive others who do the same (Matthew 6:15).

Transgression refers to presumptuous sin. It means “to choose to intentionally disobey; willful trespassing.” Samson intentionally broke his Nazirite vow by touching a dead lion (Numbers 6:1–5; Judges 14:8–9) and allowing his hair to be cut (Judges 16:17); in doing so he was committing a transgression. David was referring to this kind of sin when he wrote, “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered” (Psalm 32:1). When we knowingly run a stop sign, tell a lie, or blatantly disregard an authority, we are transgressing.

Iniquity is more deeply rooted. Iniquity means “premeditated choice, continuing without repentance.” David’s sin with Bathsheba that led to the killing of her husband, Uriah, was iniquity (2 Samuel 11:3–4; 2 Samuel 12:9). Micah 2:1 says, “Woe to those who plan iniquity, to those who plot evil on their beds! At morning’s light they carry it out because it is in their power to do it.” In David’s psalm of repentance, he cries out to God, saying, “Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51:2).

Would you still want to remain a sinner? The benefits of repentance awaits those who are willing to answer God’s call. He is calling you to His way away from your way, the righteous way of God, to holiness, thru our Lord Jesus. Would you not respond now?

What of those who Received?

pos_new

FAITH in God comes from hearing about Him, His good news of salvation. The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans wrote the following:

Romans 1:16 New Living Translation
For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes–the Jew first and also the Gentile.

Romans 10:14 New Living Translation
But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?

Romans 10:17 New Living Translation
So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

BELIEVING that Jesus is the Son of the Living God who died and rose from the dead. These may be read from the Gospel of John and Mark:

romans1_16

John 8:24 New Living Translation
That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.”

Mark 16:16 New Living Translation
Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.

More of this believing from the Gospel of John:

  1. John 3:36 New Living Translation
And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”
  2. John 3:18 New Living Translation“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.
  3. John 5:24 New Living Translation“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.
  4. John 6:47 New Living Translation
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life.

    1. John 6:27
      New Living Translation

But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”

REPENT of your sins! Turn away from what you are doing and turn to God. Stop committing sin! From the Acts of the Apostles, we can clearly see:

tumblr_mzez7slnov1t3nsxco1_500

Acts 2:38 New Living Translation
Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 3:19 New Living Translation
Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.

  1. repent and turn to God for your sins to be wiped away
  2. with your sins wiped away comes times of refreshment from the presence of the Lord

Acts 17:30 New Living Translation
“God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.

From the Gospel of Luke: Luke 15:10 New Living Translation
In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”

From the Gospel of Luke: Luke 15:7 New Living Translation
In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!

Sad to say, this is the case of many:

Acts 8:16 New Living Translation
The Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them, for they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

What now of those who received Christ but is not yet baptized?

CONFESS that Jesus is your Lord. Say that He is Lord and that He died and rose from the dead!

rom10-9

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans: Romans 10:9 New Living Translation
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

From the Gospel of Matthew: Matthew 10:32-33 New Living Translation
“Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.

From the Gospel of Luke: Luke 12:9 New Living Translation
But anyone who denies me here on earth will be denied before God’s angels.

BE BAPTIZED! It’s been written in the scriptures above. This is a requirement for the forgiveness of sins and to salvation. While you may have question, and I myself have one, we still cannot change the truth that this requirement is written and is preached by the Apostles of our Lord. The best thing to do here is to simply OBEY.

LIVE faithfully in Christ! Live your new life in Him who saved you and rescued you from sure death.

cost-of-salvation

How? By imitating God as revealed by the works of our Lord Jesus!

We start with what Jesus, our Lord commanded us:

  • LOVE

1 John 3:23 New Living Translation
And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us.

Ephesians 5:2 New Living Translation
Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

  • BE HOLY

Romans 12:1 New Living Translation
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice–the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 New Living Translation
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

1 Corinthians 7:23 New Living Translation
God paid a high price for you, so don’t be enslaved by the world.

  • LIVE A NEW LIFE in fellowship with the Lord

Colossians 2:6 New Living Translation
And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.

2 Corinthians 5:17 New Living Translation
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

Romans 6:4 New Living Translation
For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

essentials-salvation

This new life is no longer sinful. This new life is no longer the same as the old one.

1 John 3:8 New Living Translation
But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.

Do you still lie? Are you still a liar?

John 8:44 New Living Translation
For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Psalm 101:7 New Living Translation
I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence.

Your house of God may not be His house at all if you can obviously see and hear deceivers.

We ought to pause and reflect and ask ourselves:

  1. What has changed in me?
  2. What is new in me now?
  3. Have I been converted?
  4. Am I really a new creation?

The change is always for the better. What may be new should also be something good or better. We ought to have become converted. The conversion is always for the better person – not the same as the old one – which is sinful.

Revelation 21:8 New Living Translation
“But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars–their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Take heed! 2 Timothy 3:12 New Living Translation
Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

You received Christ. You believed in God. You repented of your sins. You confessed the Lord. Now aim to be baptized. And stay with Him. Remain in Him. Do not even forget Him. See Psalm 50:22 and let this verse warn you.

We really ought to LOVE God back for He loved us first. We really ought to fear Him for He is mighty and is worthy of our reverent praise. You decide. Today. Now.

To God be the glory.

EPHESIANS 5:3-7

  1. New Living Translation
Verse 5:3 Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.

    1. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 New Living Translation
God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin.
    2. Colossians 3:5 New Living Translation
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.
      Romans 1:18 New Living Translation
But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.
    3. Galatians 5:19-21 New Living Translation
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,
envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

      Romans 13:13-14 New Living Translation
Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.
  2. Verse 5:4 Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes–these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.
    1. Colossians 3:15 New Living Translation
And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
  3. Verse 5:5 You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
  4. Verse 5:6 Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him.
  5. Verse 5:7 Don’t participate in the things these people do.
    1. Colossians 3:12-14 New Living Translation
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
    2. Philippians 4:6-7 New Living Translation
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

We should start at the very first verse of this same chapter.

Verse 5:1 New Living Translation
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.

What then should we imitate about our God as His children? So much!

  1. Matthew 5:48 New Living Translation
But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.
  2. Luke 6:36 New Living Translation
You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.
  3. Philippians 2:14 New Living Translation
Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.
  4. 1 Peter 1:15 New Living Translation
But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.
  5. 1 Thessalonians 4:7 New Living Translation
God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives.

Verse 5:2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

Cross references to this is as follows:

  1. 2 Corinthians 2:15 New Living Translation
Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing.
  2. John 13:34 New Living Translation So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.

All’s written in plain words. Almost none to explain further. What may be confusing anyone is their own desire – the ungodly voice they follow.

This is how it should be when we live in Christ. This is exactly how to be a Christian. Yes, by God’s loving grace, we can persevere to imitate Him and do His will for us.

God called us to Holiness, to love Him, to be always thankful, and fear Him.

Ephesians 5:17 New Living Translation
Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.

He already has given His command. He already revealed His will. It’s all up to us now to follow.
