Created for Good Works

It’s the very purpose of our creation – that we may do good works – in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 2:10

New Living Translation
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

English Standard Version
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Berean Study Bible
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.

Let us explore this one particular verse…deducing and inferring from within.

All in just one verse. However, while we are to do good works like we are made to worship – without grace – we will not be able to do it.

Grace of God is what enables us to do things we cannot or accomplish things we normally cannot accomplish.

If we believe, we will see the glory of God! John 11:40!

Believing is the key!

Believe in God! Believe also in His only Son, Jesus!

Our Lord himself showed us the example of good works. Luke 4:18-19

New Living Translation
“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.”

English Standard Version
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Berean Study Bible
“The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

1 Timothy 6:17-19 Instructs those who are rich.

New Living Translation
Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

English Standard Version
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

Berean Study Bible
Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be conceited and not to put their hope in the uncertainty of wealth, but in God, who richly provides all things for us to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, and to be generous and ready to share, treasuring up for themselves a firm foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

Luke 3:11 Clearly states how!

New Living Translation
John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.”

English Standard Version
And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”

Berean Study Bible
John replied, “Whoever has two tunics should share with him who has none, and whoever has food should do the same.”

Isaiah 58:6 – 7  Points us the fasting that God himself wants -and it’s all doing good, and what is right!

New International Version
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter– when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

New Living Translation
“No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.

English Standard Version
“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

Hebrews 13:2 is something rare these days, in my humble opinion.

New Living Translation
Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

English Standard Version
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Berean Study Bible
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

Whatever opinion we may have – the truth is the same. We can’t change the will of God and we should not ignore His commands. The Bible is full of His commands and is already summed up in two (2) greatest command. It is always a choice to do good, and always a choice to do what is right. Let us ask for God’s grace to enable us to have the desire to do what is right, and good. I myself, choose the side of God!

Glory to God!
