Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and a fool. – Proverbs 19:1 NLT
No matter the occasion, Filipinos almost always celebrate for a reason in a season. It may not be so in other parts of the world, but to a great majority of Christian nation, it is.
- Proverbs 18:16 New Living Translation
Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people!
- Proverbs 19:6 New Living Translation
Many seek favors from a ruler; everyone is the friend of a person who gives gifts!
While we are commonly giving at a particular season, I am praying that we give cheerfully out of the generosity in our heart:
- 2 Corinthians 9:7 English Standard Version
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
…Not out of a wrong motive – to gain or get something in return.
Romans 12:8 New Living Translation
If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
Indeed, if we are to give, let us give generously!
- 2 Corinthians 9:11 New Living Translation
Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
It is written. Be generous and you will always be generous! That means you will not run out of something to give. That means being blessed with so much!
- Luke 11:13 New Living Translation
So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
Yes, indeed. How much more – if we can ever get to understand – our Father in Heaven? He is the creator of all things. The source of everything we can see. What can anybody expect from a God who is loving and merciful and kind?
Given that it’s better to give, what then could we give as the greatest gift we can?
1 Corinthians 13:13 New Living Translation
Three things will last forever–faith, hope, and love–and the greatest of these is love.
These 3! The greatest!
Give the gift of a lasting genuine faith, a confident hope, and a love – that never fails!
1 Timothy 1:5 New Living Translation
The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.
Romans 15:13 New Living Translation
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 14:14-18 New Living Translation
I know and am convinced on the authority of the Lord Jesus that no food, in and of itself, is wrong to eat. But if someone believes it is wrong, then for that person it is wrong. And if another believer is distressed by what you eat, you are not acting in love if you eat it. Don’t let your eating ruin someone for whom Christ died. Then you will not be criticized for doing something you believe is good. For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too.
Romans 12:9 New Living Translation
Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
Psalm 138:2 New Living Translation
I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name.
Psalm 62:11-12 New Living Translation
God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you; unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done.
Psalm 86:5 New Living Translation
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Ephesians 5:1 New Living Translation
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.
Philippians 4:6-10 New Living Translation
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me–everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
All glory to God, and peace to you all!
